Adidas gets record USD305 million compensation

Adidas has been awarded USD305 million from a US Federal jury for trademark violation. In 2001, it sued Kansas shoe company, Collective Brands Inc., which operates Payless and Stride Rite shoe store chains, for infringing its three-stripe trade mark by selling shoes featuring the stripes.

They have finally received the verdict they were waiting for. This is one of the heftiest trademark damages awards we’ve seen in a while and will have the international sportswear giants salivating.

But Collective Brands is fighting back and is appealing.
